Physiotherapy is a treatment to help restore movement and function when someone is affected by injury, illness, or disability. It takes a holistic approach that involves the patient directly in their own care.
I had three (3) weeks of intense physiotherapy to help with the movement and function of my right arm after several surgeries.
The physiotherapist goes through the motion of certain arm strengthening exercises, but the majority of the work was done by myself at home. The more I practised the given motions on my own, the more flexible my arm became.
I carried on with the exercises after my physiotherapy sessions had ended and within a short period, my arm regained almost complete mobility.
There are still some creases of tightness underneath the right armpit but it’s becoming softer. At the beginning of physiotherapy in 2017, the right arm could only be slightly raised. Swimming combined with yoga stretches, in addition to following the routine from the physiotherapists really helped with loosening the knots formed from all the surgeries – and the removal of all of the lymph nodes.
